County governments play a critical role in disease control, safeguarding livestock farmers’ livelihoods, and strengthening food security, key pillars for sustainable agricultural development and economic resilience.
The County Government of Machakos, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti, EGH, through the Department of Agriculture, Food Security, Livestock and Cooperative Development, partnered with the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) to formalize a collaboration with the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI).
The partnership was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing livestock health management through improved access to vaccines and strengthened veterinary support services across the county.
The signing ceremony brought together key stakeholders including Chief Officers Mr. Albert Mulwa (Agriculture and Food Security) and Mr. Moses Wambua (Livestock and Fisheries), alongside technical experts such as County Director of Agriculture Ms. Francisca Mwanzia and County Director of Veterinary Services Dr. Mutungi. The KEVEVAPI delegation was led by Managing Director Dr. Alex Sabuni.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen disease prevention and response systems, improve livestock productivity, and support farmers through enhanced veterinary interventions.
This initiative further reinforces the County Government’s commitment to advancing H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s development agenda of “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni,” by promoting food security, economic resilience, and sustainable livelihoods for farmers across Machakos County.
